NPS Metals

Congratulations to Doug Brennan for his 35 years of Service at NPS Metals a division of Owen Industries.  Doug is currently the Quality Manger for both NPS Metals and NPF Finishing.  He started his career running various machines from Press Brake, Flame Cutter, to Welding.  He then became a driver operating one of our semi-trucks to deliver parts to customers.  When NPS got their very first laser in 1996, Doug became the very first Laser Operator for the division at that time.  He ran the laser until 2002 when he moved into his current role as Quality Manager and has worked in that role since then.

Congratulations on 40 years of service to Steve Gunderson at Owen Industries.  Over the years Steve, “Gunner” as he likes to be called, has had the privilege to work for three generations of the Owen family; Ed, Bob, and now Tyler.  During his time with the company Steve has had the opportunity to work in several different positions operating a wide variety of machinery.  Steve has worked from Shearing, Crane Operator, Sawing, Press Brake, Side Stacker to Shipping Supervisor.  He is a member of the safety committee, steering committee, and is a certified quality auditor.

Mike Flach will be retiring from Northern Plains Steel on Thursday, March 14th after 33 ½ years of service.  Mike has been working in the machining center since he started with the company and has been a great asset to have in that department for the company.  He plans to enjoy the next year traveling, spending time with family, and just enjoying his time off.  Next summer he hopes to work part-time for the Fargo Parks District being an umpire for kids t-ball since he has always had a passion for baseball.  We would like to thank Mike for his many years of service and wish him the best!

Arlin Vanderwerff retired from Northern Plains Steel on Wednesday, May 30th after 33 years with the company.  Arlin started with the company as a torch operator and slowly worked his way up into the role of Foreman/Production Planner.  He enjoyed the challenges he faced with his position and how to figure out solutions to fix those problems.  Arlin was a great asset to the company and will be missed dearly.

On February 20th  2018, Northern Plains Finishing hosted the Minn-Dak Manufactures Association for a luncheon and meet and greet. The Minn-Dak Manufactures Association was founded in the mid 1970’s and includes Manufactures from Eastern North Dakota and Western Minnesota.

Forty five members were present from 30 different manufactures in the area. During lunch a brief history of Northern Plains Steel and Northern Plains Finishing was presented with a question and answer session following.

Tours of the plant closed the noon meeting. The attendees were impressed with the cleanliness of the facility, and most of all the quality and quantity of the product being shipped on a daily basis.
