Rolling Into 2021

While 2020 keeps rolling out the hits… MVS Metals has been rolling as well! Our recent addition of an Akyapak AHS 30/16 sheet and plate roller has been doing exactly that. Capable of rolling cylinders, half-cylinders, cones, ovals and squares in combinations up to 3/4″ thick and 122” long, it can do just about anything you can imagine!

We have been busy processing piece parts as well as items that go into sub-assemblies, which makes having control of the process that much more valuable to us, and much more cost effective for you!

Please contact our sales department today at sales@mvsmetals.com for more information!

Keith Siebels-VP Sales /GM PVS Metals and Ron DeBord-VP Human Resources enjoyed a tour of CAM-“Center for Advanced Manufacturing”- hosted by Metro Community College officials. Owen Industries, Inc. is excited for what the future can bring with respect to a collaborative partnership with MCC. This partnership will focus on the curriculum standards that lead to high paying jobs within our metals industry. A highlight of this tour and of special interest to Owen Industries PVS-Metals, is the brand-new Cincinnati [90-Ton / 120”] Press Break. Qualified Press Break Operators within the advanced manufacturing industries have many opportunities at PVS-Metals, which provide career growth and much job security. During the current COVID-19 pandemic, Owen Industries struggled like many companies to find hand sanitizer stations. Our attempt to give our essential employees an extra safety measure was falling short. Our team at MVS Metals, helped to create a universal stand that has a unique multi functional design that will accommodate almost any hand sanitizer dispenser.

The design is versatile and  functional. This item is available for sale through National Everything Wholesale.

Owen Industries is making every effort to keep our employees, vendors and customers safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. We have implemented many new safety measures across all our divisions to help insure everyone is protected.  For our Omaha/Carter Lake operations, we want to highlight Wayne Bell and Twana McGhee for stepping up to the plate during this difficult time and being the driving force in sanitizing our offices and plants!  All day, every day these two wipe down all high touch surfaces and replenish all our supplies.  Dave Coover works daily in our Structures plant sanitizing high touch surfaces. In Fargo we have Jay Foard doing extra cleaning and sanitizing in the shop and in Sioux City we have Katie Tucker doing the sanitizing nightly.

All these efforts have helped to greatly reduce risk to everyone on our campus.  These key players regularly clean and sanitize doors, railings, machinery, breakrooms, office machines and restrooms to help prevent the spread of the virus.   Our staff would not be so well protected if it weren’t for these superstars and their daily cleaning routines.

Hand sanitizer stations (made by MVS!) are located throughout our offices and shops. Upon entering our buildings, everyone is asked to use hand sanitizer and to keep their distance at all times.  No different than any other continuing operations, we are following CDC guidance and look forward to the day when these issues are behind us.

Our Human Resources department has been diligent in managing and tracking all employees who report any illness or symptoms. They are our heroes in helping to flatten the curve.

We want to thank Wayne, Twana Dave, Katie and Jay for their hard work and endless effort to help keep our campus clean and germ free! THANK YOU!  They are part of the reason that PVS Metals, PVS Structures, MVS Metals, NPS Metals and NP Finishing have been able to keep operating for our critical infrastructure products and customers.

PVS Structures is fabricating eight 75-0 beam spans for Iowa Interstate Railroad that are being installed over the Raccoon River just West of Des Moines, IA. These beam spans are using 5-W40x503 beams per span. Each of these beams is 42 inches deep and weighs 503 lbs. per lineal foot or 37,800 lbs. Each span has two units, a 2 beam unit and a 3 beam unit. Fully fabricated, the 2 beam unit weighs 97,000 lbs and 3 beam unit weighs 141,000 lbs. the entire span once erected in the field weighs 243,780 lbs or 121.9 tons.

Hayden Transportation LLC out of Liberty, MO has been contracted to move these units from PVS to the Jobsite in Booneville, IA. The tractor trailer they’re using to move each unit has a total of 11 axles, Seven at the tractor and 4 at the trailer. Once loaded the tractor trailer is approximately 125’-0” long. The trailer being used has a steerable rear end which is needed to make any sharp corner. It is operated independently from the tractor by remote control from the following pilot car.

Hayden Transportation has shared a video showing one of the eight 3 beam units leaving our facility in Carter Lake and traveling through downtown Omaha to Interstate 80 and finally to the jobsite. Please see video below.

Thanks again to operations manager Doug Loughery with Hayden Transportation for composing the video and sharing, It’s an amazing sight to see.
