A $1.2 million donation is giving students at Westside High School the opportunity to learn skills they can’t necessarily find in a textbook.
With the addition of a new state-of-the-art facility right on the high school’s campus, students will get hands-on training that can lead to a job right after graduation.
“This is less of a donation as it is an investment. We already have some of these kids that graduated working in our shop,” Owen said.
Welding instructor John Bombac says 75 students are enrolled in a welding class and 28 are getting college credit.
Instead of a ribbon-cutting ceremony, Westside High School says it will host a steel-cutting ceremony at the new lab on Oct. 4.
Governor Pete Ricketts says he’ll be in attendance.
