PVS Structures

PVS Structures (a division of Owen Holdings) is excited to announce immediate openings in their Welder apprenticeship program.

PVS Structures (formerly known as Paxton & Vierling Iron Works) has been supporting apprenticeships since its founding in 1885 (as you can see this specific example dates from April, 1907 and represents a “finisher and outside setter” role).

In 2016 PVS Structures, in partnership with IWCC- Iowa Western Community College, successfully launched a USDOL-Welder Apprenticeship program.  Over the past six years the company has successfully graduated several apprentices from the program. All graduates receive the coveted USDOL-Journeyman Welder certification. Thus, the vision of providing young college aged individuals an opportunity to receive on the job, “earn while you learn” training continues to be realized with each new cohort class.

Apprentices are asked to demonstrate mastery of skills instead of sitting through a predetermined number of classroom sessions, allowing them to go faster through topics they understand and slow down on tougher subjects.  Because it’s competency-based, the apprenticeship program was condensed to two years, instead of three, allowing for faster advancement.  This allows more people to move through the program and onto rewarding welding careers.  Apprentices improve their skills while creating value for the company, a win-win that creates employees with the skills and knowledge needed to be successful within the structural fabrication industry.

We look forward to a continued partnership with IWCC and future expansion of our Welding Apprenticeship Program.  As a Future Ready Iowa Company, PVS Structures values work readiness initiatives that help support economic growth within the community.

PVS spent the last week celebrating the end of summer with a horseshoe tournament and our annual Summer Sizzler.

We had 13 teams for horseshoes this year, that’s 26 employees! Games were played during the week, and competition was fierce! Our first place winners were Mike Becker and Mark Beccard. Followed closely by Emiley Ryckman and Mario Moreno. Our winners received a cash prize, trophy and bragging rights!

On Tuesday, September 27th, all employees met for a cookout to finish out the summer weather. Everyone walked away happy and very full!

Congratulations to our horseshoe winners and THANK YOU to all of our employees for your dedication and hard work!
