Our collaboration with Iowa Western Community College was showcased at an event on March 3rd – “College Day on Capitol Hill”. Colleges and Industry partners met in the Capitol Rotunda to showcase training programs, while discussing the future of skilled trades and the need for ongoing support at the state level. Ron DeBord – VP of Human Resources attended while having very productive conversations with Lobbyist and State Senators who support our local junior college programs that address workforce challenges, as we seek to close the gap with a rising demand of skilled trades workers and a growing economy.

PVS Structures is assisting in construction of the Valmont Headquarters building located at 250 North Applied Parkway in Omaha.  The site is at the new Heartwood Preserve development formerly known as the Boys Town West farm.

It will consist of two office buildings connected by an atrium to make the offices seem separated yet seamless.

This will be a 4-story building with 579 tons of steel in the core and shell.

We began our first delivery of steel for the structure February 17, 2020.

Owen Industries attended two additional schools last week for Career RockIt. Some of our employees went to Karen Western Elementary and visited with a 3rd and 4th grade class. The kids were amazed by all the steel products that Owen’s produce that is all around them. Tony Wredt, one of our Estimators, had the kids teach him how to take a selfie!

Our next stop was Alfonza W Davis Middle School. We met with a 6th and 7th grade class taking a Technology and Living class. The module they were starting was on CNC Manufacturing. The students were very interested in the different type of jobs we have, and how most do not require a college degree.

Ron DeBord-VP Human Resources spent the day visiting Central Community College-Hastings Ne

Highlights included a tour of a new 10-million dollar Advanced Manufacturing Design Technology center with state of the art Haas machining Centers; Drafting & Design Technology center that houses state of the art 3-D Metal and Plastics printing; and a new Weld Facility that is currently under construction.

We look forward to a continued relationship with CCC college and the students who are graduating from programs within skilled trades, which are aligned with our business model; in particular Advanced Manufacturing and Welding.
